Erin was still sleeping when she was bundled up into the care. Her parents felt like they had little choice in the matter after the last two months. They felt like they had lost their daughter after the attack. She was just so different. Hungry all the time and what was actually fear they saw as uncontrollable rage.
When she woke up in the car she thought they were just going on a day trip. It excited her so much because she thought they were going to be a family again. They had a cook out for lunch and went hiking. Erin was convinced that her parents were finally happy. She thought it was getting better.
The hike wore her out. She was resting on the blanket her Mom had laid out. The warmth of the mid-fall sun was soothing. She thought everything was perfect again. It felt like she was barely asleep when she woke up again.
It was dark. Everything looked different after dark.
"Mom? Dad?"
What was going on? Had they left her? She feels the thing that has become part of her go half mad with fear in the back of her head. They left her. Erin takes a few deep breaths trying to regain some kind of control. It hurts fighting that wild part of her like trying to restrain lightning or fire with her bare hands.
It's fine. Everything is fine Erin lies to herself. She knows if she screams that other new part of her is going to come trashing out of her. Erin isn't sure she can control that. This is literally the worst.
